The Birth of the Sheepdog
The Emerson Sheepdog knife features black G-10 handles, and two types of blades: Spear Point and Bowie. It features a ball-bearing pivot system to allow for a smooth and rapid deployment. This ball-bearing feature is only seen on our Flipper Knives. The Sheepdog has quickly become one of the most highly rated and searched for Emerson Knives.
Listen to Episode 6 of the Ernest Emerson Podcast with Lt. Col. David Grossman here.
“The Sheepdog Knife is a medium size folder with some important features that are entirely new to Emerson Knives. Knowing that this knife is specifically designed for both police and military use, these two blade styles make the most sense for a utility/defensive knife. We are extremely pleased with the results and I know you will be too. “
KNIFE ANATOMY
HOW TO USE THE WAVE FEATURE
An important part of knowing the anatomy of an Emerson Knife is knowing how to utilize it. Using the patented Emerson Wave Feature correctly, you can deploy the knife out of pocket rapidly. It takes some practice to master. See how it's done in the video above.
BLADE STYLE: SPEARPOINT
Spear point blades are commonly referred to as ‘drop point‘. The edge curves up to the tip of the blade. We refer to Emerson Knives with spear point blades as having ‘A-Blades'.
BLADE STYLE: BOWIE
Bowie blades are very popular among Emerson Knives fans. These awesome knives have an upswept blade edge that meets a downward curved tip. This gives it a similar appearance to a rhino's horn. Perfect for hunters and fisherman because their fine points are perfect for getting into small crevices.
Standoff Spacers have been standard on all Emerson Knife models since 2014. Any knife ordered from our site from that year will receive one of these models.
Lanyard Holes serve one purpose: attaching a paracord lanyard if you choose to get one. We get asked that question quite a lot!
The Thumb Button is there so that you may open the knife single handedly . Specifically with your thumb. Some people are naturals at it and some have to learn. Either way, it's very useful.

Awesome knife! The smooth action, strong lock up, and size are the reasons it has replaced my other pocket knives. It feels great no mater what I am wearing (shorts, jeans, dress slacks) and the first thing that goes into my pocket every morning.

Pro: The perfect EDC. Small enough to be discrete, big enough to do the job. Action smooth, blade very sharp, lock solid.
Con: The perfect EDC. So how do I convince my wife I need another knife?

Best EDC. Action smooth as glass. Lockup strong but closes easily. Blade centered. Grind symmetric (1 side sharpened). 3 inches legal most places. Suggestion: When around people open with thumb disc, less sudden. In emergency or among friends open with wave or flipper – fast as switchblade. Sheepdog paw print nice extra. Interesting how high-quality people like Ernest Emerson and Dave Grossman find each other.

Action smoothest. Blade very sharp, centered, grind symmetric (1 side sharpened). Lockup strong but easy to close. Detent keeps it closed. Advertised blade length 3 inches but mine is 2-15/16, so should be legal even in anti-gun, anti-knife places like Los Angeles. Has Dave Grossman's paw print logo and you've sold me. Interesting how high-class people like Emerson and Grossman find each other. Fine knife, even better significance: sheepdog.

Absolutely terrific form and function. The perfect size for EDC when you’re looking at being a bit more discreet. Love the flipper and mine is silky smooth in a way I’ve not seen from Emerson. Lock-up is solid and smooth on the unlock. Really enjoying this knife.

Got a mini sheepdog for a father's day present to myself. I love the ability to of the flipper. Very small and fast. The lock up is the strongest lock up I've ever had in a knife. I love it.

Great everyday carry knife. Small enough to disappear into the pocket. Large enough to remain capable.
