If I were to describe the Emerson CQC-17 I would tell you that it is a cross between a sheepsfoot and a straight razor. That’s a pretty close description. But there are some differences.
The knife has a 3.125 inch blade and an overall length of 7.4 inches and finishes neatly in a pocket friendly 4.3 inch handle in the closed position. This compact cutter is a slick, efficient design that looks just as good as it cuts – which is superbly.
The graceful arc of the cutting edges is clean, efficient and of course, razor sharp. I’ve got to say this, “This is a cool pocket knife that I’ve liked more and more as an EDC every time I’ve pulled it out of my pocket to use it.”

I must admit that I have grown a desire to collect Emerson’s and fortunately I have a good line up with the cqc 7, 15, and commander. Then this little thing arrives yesterday and while I hate doing reviews too early this left such an impression. The others listed are rugged and utilitarian with all other desires coming second. This on the other hand has those qualities that many are looking for in the forefront. Smoooooth action, great edc size, and no wave lol. I didn’t expect to like this knife the way I did. It’s in my top 5 for sure and a great buy if you are collecting Emerson’s like myself!

Fantastic knife. Blade is great for all cutting tasks, especially rope or cord. Knife feels great in hand, this is the most comfortable knife to use. Love the look, like a Hard Use Higonokami.
