It seems the Irish have always had it tough. And in 1798, partly inspired by the success of the American Revolution, the Irish attempted to throw off the yoke of English subjugation. It was called the year of the Irish Rebellion and although the Irish “Rebels” didn’t succeed, it did not dull the edge of the Irish spirit and it still  marks an important date in the history of Irish culture.
