HOW TO USE THE WAVE FEATURE

An important part of knowing the anatomy of an Emerson Knife is knowing how to utilize it. Using the  patented Emerson Wave Feature correctly, you can deploy the knife out of pocket rapidly. It takes some practice to master. See how it's done in the video above.

BLADE STYLE: TANTO

Emerson Knives is famous for our many Tanto style blades. One of our most popular Tanto models is the Bulldog, which is shown above. The profile is similar to that of a samurai's katana, because of its sharp angles and razor sharp edge. We refer to Tanto knives as having ‘B-Blades'.

Standoff Spacers have been standard on all Emerson Knife models since 2014. Any knife ordered from our site from that year will receive one of these models.

Anatomy of an Emerson Knife Lanyard

Lanyard Holes serve one purpose: attaching a paracord lanyard if you choose to get one. We get asked that question quite a lot!

The Thumb Button is there so that you may open the knife single handedly . Specifically with your thumb. Some people are naturals at it and some have to learn. Either way, it's very useful.

An absolute beast sized just right! I think of knives as tools, and you’ll never, ever question the build on this for whatever you’re using it for. It’s a little heavier than my old EDCs, but the trade-off in build is worth it. Absolutely love it!

Truly blown away at the craftmanship of this knife. The blade finish is incredible. I love the option of changing the clip to an American Flag. The grip on the handles is perfect, not overly sharp to the hand. The wave feature is amazing to have it open just by pulling the knife out of your pocket. The size of the Bulldog is perfect. Thank You for a great knife.

  3. Mark C

Wow what a blade ! Only my 4th tanto I'm more warny and sheepsfoot guy. Emerson knocked this out the park with the chisel edge.. the maintenance is super easy and this knife carries well.. My 5th Emerson and yet to be let down. Keep up the good work I will be back for more.

I can’t say enough good things about this knife. Perfect size for the pocket, super strong blade, perfect ergonomics with a super strong detent. I have the black and satin finish blades. Worth every single penny. Super happy customer here.

  5. Playing with Knives

    Hard use EDC!
Emerson’s chisel grind is still my favorite profile. Really easy to keep the edge hair-popping sharp. Pointier than the CQC7, which is pretty handy. Very comfortable and ergonomic handle. Standard rock solid lockup. Another outstanding knife!

  6. Bjorn Sieben

As a base model of excellent broad spectrum use, Emerson tanto's are the best there is. The bulldog, or in my preference, the Big Bulldog is among my favorite blades to carry in the field. It is without question a beast that is designed to be beaten liberally and it will persevere over and over again.

Where to even begin……as a paramedic I used this knife for various what I consider to be everyday tasks i.e. cutting clothing off victims of car accidents, cutting paracord and rope, to opening packages. What I didnt expect is to ever have to use my knife for what I did this weekend, my daughter was sick on the way home from the hospital I stopped to get out and use the restroom some how my daughter managed to lock herself my keys and cellphone in the truck. The only thing I had in my pocket was my Bulldog in a panic I pulled it out and wedged in in the door of the truck holding my breath and prying I was hoping that it would open the door enough for me to be able to hit the unlock button, it worked! The knife unfortunately was broken but my daughter is fine. I cant praise this knife enough!! Emerson is one of the best companys I have ever seen I felt this way before the incident this weekend but no after I am in shock and awe of the products they build and the company itself it's rare to find a company all American made and ran and I am so thankful to emerson knives for their products

  8. Matt F.

The Bulldog is probably my favorite Emerson in this size range. I've owned two in the BT configuration. Handle is ergonomic as hell. Compact stout knife that is easy to carry.

  9. Shannon L. Young

    Love this little brute!

  10. mountain4x4tacoma

I absolutely love the Bulldog. It's small but mighty and feels extremely sturdy for every day carry. I have carried it in my pocket for years and it's never let me down.

  11. Greg

My girlfriend just got me a bulldog or my birthday. I used to use a spyderco delica 4 with an Emerson wave as my edc knife, in fact I used it to open the box of the bulldog. After seeing and holding this knife I'll have to kiss that sweet delica goodbye. Awesome knife but The BULLDOG. How can you compare? The size is just at my max for edc and I am confident it will exceed all expectation.

  12. Anthony Clark

Just got my bulldog today great knife feel very solid as do my mini commander cqc-7 and my spec war I'm waiting for vol.1 video already have vol. 2 and shirts I've got from you are top quality as well thanks Ernest I hope to meet you at knife show this year thanks.

  13. Fletcher

Used my old 7b to cut open the shipping box about 2 minutes ago. What a beauty I got the SFS model. This thing is awesome. My first thought when holding it…….When does the super version come out????

  14. casper2385 (verified owner)

This bulldog is my first but certainly not my last! This is a well crafted blade with no shortcuts taken and extreme attention to detail. The chisel grind is great on the entire blade up to the tip. The handle is perfectly fitting for my hand and I've got medium to large hands. The blade opens and closes at the perfect rate, the pocket opener works perfect or if you open it with the thumb opener also is perfect size, not too big not too small! Great product Emerson you made a believer and a new lifetime customer as well as advertiser

  15. lodironman (verified owner)

This will be my second Emerson, though it is a little smaller than I thought, and have never owned a stone washed blade before…this is a very stout little knife. I love the chisel grind on it mostly because most knives are a full v grind. Thank You Emerson! You have made this Airman happy. Best knives EVER!

  16. ED (verified owner)

for my needs, this may well be the perfect knife! I have a number of other Emersons I carry as well, but seems like most mornings, this is the one I reach for. It just…….. fits. Thanks for making some of the finest knives around!

    Serial number 71 reporting in.
My normal EDC is a CQC 7 mini. This one is a bit larger with the full choil. Fits in my hand well. Fits in my pocket well. I like it.

But as will as with Emersons since 2012, the first thing I do is take some 150 grit and sand the scales a bit. The current scales are like sand paper and will destroy the pocket of my jeans in no time.

I love all my emersons. Wish I had more pockets.

Just received my Ernest Emerson “Bulldog” SFS! Just like its name , this is one tough, well designed knife. This is my first Ernest Emerson knife designed with the “standoffs.” This knife is definitely going to be a “crowd pleaser.” But then again, all his knives always are. To Ernest Emerson and crew, thank you very much for the opportunity to purchase this “limited availability” knife. Emerson knives are my all time favorite and they have been with me on all three tours to the “Sandbox”. Thank you a again for an extraordinary tactical knife.
